~ The Early Life Massage Story ~
When I was a child my mother massaged me. I had what I referred to as tickly feet. At bedtime my legs and feet would become very nervy, to the point of tears. The only relief I would get is from my mothers loving touch. Often she would rub my feet until I fell asleep.
I enjoyed playing guess the word as she gently drew letters with her nails on my back, love letters sealed in touch.
Our family shared touch. We gave and received massage on a regular basis. I was a practicing massage therapist by the time I was 7.
As I grew so did my practice. I loved to touch because I loved to be touched. I knew first hand the benefits of massage.
As I became older I learned that not everyone shared touch in their families. I offered friends massage and enjoyed the process of enlightening them to the benefits of healthy, skilled touch.
When I turned 16 I received my first professional full-body massage from a very talented therapist, Lilly. I opened my eyes at the end of the session and knew Lilly had touched my life forever. Each time she massaged me I learned. I learned first by receiving, like when I was a child and then by observing and practicing technique.
As I continue to share massage I continue to learn. Most importantly I know it is not my touch that heals, it is those touched that do the healing. I point out areas of dis-ease and assist in the process of creating ease.
